July 13, 2004 -- When we think of the Borg shown in Star Trek: First Contact, we think of a dehumanized alien species melded from human and machine parts. Most of us do not think we are even close to having the level of technology depicted in that film. Well, we’re wrong. Visual Link Inc., an Internet communications company, and Xybernaut Corporation, a mobile device development company, have partnered to take communications and computer devices to the next step of evolution and interaction with humans – high level mobile computing in vehicles and on people.
From a body-worn, voice-activated, high-power processor, to a single eye visual display of 2”x2”, Visual Link and Xybernaut have combined mobility, communications, battery innovations, compression and visualization technologies to create a new level of communications and computing technology. Their purpose is to increase human mobility, efficiency, productivity, performance and safety. Mark Bayliss, CEO of Visual Link will talk to us about new product releases by the partnership, as well as take a look at what these technology advances mean for us in the future as humans, the impact on health, the economics of doing business, warfare, and other arenas. Joel Coulter, Business Development Advisor to the Chairman of Xybernaut Corp. will demonstrate some of their new wearable computer products.
Visual Link is a leader in developing and deploying advanced Internet services. Visual Link consists of three divisions: Visual Link Internet, Cobalt Racks and WorldAirWaves. Visual Link currently provides Internet related services to over 40 countries throughout the world, with its main office located in Winchester VA and additional offices in Canada and Russia.
Xybernaut was founded in 1990 with a vision to bring the full benefits of computing power closer to the mobile worker. Back then, it was virtually impossible to take a fully functioning workstation anywhere outside the office. Even today's notebook computers do not fit into the tight spaces and environments in which many workers operate. Xybernaut products are an eloquent convergence of technology devices that integrate seamlessly and comfortably into traditional work situations and processes. They can yield unparalleled benefits - improved focus and workflow, better teamwork and significantly enhanced productivity. Xybernaut and it's best-of-breed collaborators continue to realize a new class of products that are ultra mobile, fully integrated, easy to use, comfortable to wear, powerful, compatible and robust.
